ARGENTINA: ‘Emergency’ declared, Iran-AMIA case revived

The recently installed government of President Mauricio Macri has declared a countrywide ‘state of emergency in the area of security’. It has also notified Interpol that the request for ‘red notices’ for the arrest of Iranian officials suspected of involvement in the 1994 AMIA bombing remains in effect. This was followed by the reopening of the investigation into the violent death of public prosecutor Alberto Nisman, when he was about to file charges against President Cristina Fernández for allegedly seeking to shield those Iranian officials from prosecution.
