COSTA RICA-NICARAGUA | World Court rules against Managua. On 16 December the International Court of Justice (ICJ) handed down its ruling on two cases it was hearing jointly: Costa Rica’s 2010 suit against Nicaragua alleging military incursion in its territory and environmental damage caused to part of its territory protected by international conventions, and Nicaragua’s 2011 suit against Costa Rica alleging that the construction of a 160-kilometre road along the Costa Rican bank of San Juan river had caused environmental damage.
