DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Medina and PLD in cruise control

With the 15 May general elections in the Dominican Republic (DR) just over a month away, President Danilo Medina, who is standing for re-election for the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD), retains a commanding lead in voting intention polls. The odds are that Medina will secure re-election and a fifth consecutive presidential term for the PLD. But what is still unclear is whether the elections will allow the newly formed Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) to emerge as an effective opposition party.
