CHILE POLITICS: More corruption casualties

Last month, Chile’s attorney general’s office (MP) revealed plans to charge Pablo Longueira, a former senator (2009-2011) and economy minister (2011-2013) from the right-wing opposition Unión Demócrata Independiente (UDI), with corruption. Longueira became the latest public figure to face charges as a result of the various scandals to implicate the political and business elite and involving companies such as local mining firm Sociedad Química y Minera SA (SQM) and the Penta financial group.
