ARGENTINA: Ruling marks another blow for Kirchnerismo

An Argentine federal cassation judge has overruled an earlier judicial decision regarding allegations that a faction of the Frente para la Victoria (FPV, Kirchneristas) led by the governor of the province of Santa Cruz Alicia Kirchner, part of the main opposition Partido Justicialista (PJ, Peronists), forced compulsory political memberships on provincial civil servants. In November 2014 the lawyer Jorge Luis Pérez denied that he had signed a document indicating his political affiliation with Kirchner’s FPV faction Corriente de Liberación Nacional (Kolina) at the electoral secretariat. While his case was initially dismissed, in his appeal Pérez noted that he had verified other similar cases and called for a wider investigation. The cassation ruling means that the investigation into Pérez’s allegations will continue, representing a new roadblock for Kirchner, who has faced consistent political turmoil in Santa Cruz in recent months.
