COLOMBIA: Government and Farc launch joint coca programme

In a clear sign that the ongoing peace negotiations between the government and the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) are close to being concluded, this week the two sides launched a new pilot programme designed to eradicate coca plantations in Colombia. But as positive as this development is, it was somewhat overshadowed by an armed clash between the military and Farc units in the southern department of Meta, which has sparked concerns of a breakdown of the unilateral ceasefire that the Farc has been largely observing since December 2014 in support of the peace process.
