No terrorism, just the habitual ‘carioca’ violence

The Summer Olympic Games being held in the city of Rio de Janeiro are going ahead without terrorist attacks, despite concerns following recent incidents in Europe. Instead, visiting authorities, athletes and spectators are being greeted with the habitual ‘carioca’ violence as Brazil’s political and intellectual elites struggle to convince the world of the country’s political, economic and social stability.
