Brazil: Security deteriorates in Rio de Janeiro

Police morale in Rio de Janeiro is at an all-time low. Following severe budget cuts, many have run out of basic supplies needed to carry out their day-to-day duties and the local government has not paid them on time in months. The state of “public calamity” sweeping through Rio is not just an economic phenomenon but appears to have engulfed state security as well.
