On the road to nowhere

The new Vatican-mediated dialogue in Venezuela has yet to deliver results. Venezuela’s supreme court (TSJ) continues its brinkmanship with the legislature, while the government led by President Nicolás Maduro continues to behave in cynical fashion, making something of a mockery of efforts by Pope Francis to resolve the crisis. The Holy See’s delegate to the talks, Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, has bluntly warned of the risk of bloodshed if the initiative fails.
