Bolivia: Boosting security with other neighbours

In recent weeks, the Bolivian government led by President Evo Morales has announced various deals with its neighbours over anti-crime efforts. As well as strengthening security cooperation with Peru (see box), in October Bolivia’s defence minister, Reymi Ferreira, announced a deal between Bolivia’s airforce Fuerza Aérea Boliviana (FAB) and its Argentine counterpart, Fuerza Aérea Argentina (FAA), regarding permanent increased cooperation in the fight against drugs – and specifically the widespread use of aeroplanes by drug traffickers from Argentina and Paraguay into Bolivia.
