Fast tracking the Farc peace process

Implementing all the aspects of the revised peace deal reached with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrillas is the new top priority for the Colombian government led by President Juan Manual Santos. After successfully renegotiating a peace deal with the Farc to replace that rejected in a national referendum [RA-16-11], the Santos government chose not to risk submitting the new deal to another referendum, opting to have it approved by the national congress instead. This was controversial as many of those who rejected the original agreement continue to have reservations about the revised deal. But in its determination to save the peace process, the government is doing all it can to expedite the passage through congress of the legislative package needed for the peace accord’s implementation.
