BRAZIL: Campaign turns violent under Lula's gaze

Brazil's presidential campaign turned violent last week, with militants of the ruling Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) clashing with activists of the main opposition Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB) on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. President Lula da Silva failed to condemn the violence and instead chose to adopt a confrontational discourse against the opposition to promote the interests of his party.
