BOLIVIA: Morales revives uranium fears

President Evo Morales is providing US conservative conspiracy theorists with new fodder. This week he paid a three day visit to Iran, his second since bilateral ties were established in September 2007. After literally kicking off the visit with a football friendly with his Iranian peer, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (suggesting their joint interests extend beyond  the “fight against imperialism"), the two signed a string of accords regarding the possibility of Iranian investment in sectors such as dairy processing, textile manufacturing and mining. The latter in particular continues to attract attention given Bolivia's as yet unquantified uranium reserves.
