DOMINICAN REPUBLIC | GDP surges. The economy grew by 7.6% in the first three quarters of the year on the same period in 2009. Inflation, meanwhile, has been kept down to 4.24%, according to the governor of the central bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu. All of the sectors of the economy except, crucially, free zones, grew year-on-year. There was an increase of 2.7% in arrivals of tourists from the Americas, meaning that the important hotel, bar and restaurant sector grew by 4.2%.
