Industrial growth slows down. Industrial activity in
Argentina in June was 0.1% down on the previous month, though it remained 5%
higher than a year earlier. Production in the first half of the year was 6.4%
higher than in the comparable period of 2006. Overall economic activity in May
was up 1.4% on April, taking the five-month total to a level 8.2% higher than a
year earlier. President Néstor Kirchner hailed this as 'the most important
month-on-month growth index ever'. Private economists have been predicting GDP
growth of about 7.7% this year. First-quarter growth was 8%.
