Authorities announce capture of presumed suspect in massacre. On 20 May Mexico’s defence ministry (Sedena) announced the capture on 18 May of Daniel de Jesús ‘El Loco’ Elizondo Ramírez, who has been identified as one of the main people responsible for the recent murder and mutilation of 49 people, whose bodies were found in Nuevo León highway near
Cadereyta municipality. Elizondo was wanted by the authorities in connection with the September 2011 murder of three women, one of whom was the girlfriend of a local army lieutenant. Since then, the army has launched an operation to find Elizondo who is believed to be a long time member of the Los Zetas drug trafficking organization (DTO). The authorities said that, along with the discovery of the bodies in Cadereyta, they found messages in which Elizondo assumed responsibility for the act, which he committed to defy the army.
