Canal progress update: The new Panama Canal administrator, Jorge Luis Quijano, announced on 25 September that as of 31 August, roughly 44.5% of the US$5.2bn Canal expansion programme had been completed. According to a statement by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), “three of the four dry excavation projects have been completed and the 4th project reached 67%... The dredging of the Pacific and Atlantic entrances and of the Gatun Lake are advancing as scheduled with progress reaching 92%, 98%, and 76% respectively.
