Mexico City metro scandal damages PRD

Mass transport projects in Mexico are the responsibility of each of the 31 states (except when they cross state borders), plus the Federal District, home to the country’s capital Mexico City, which runs one of the world’s busiest urban railway systems, moving 5.0m passengers per day on average. On 11 March, the director of the metro system, Joel Ortega, announced that service along a section of the newly-built Línea 12 (comprising 11 out of the line’s 20 stops) would be suspended for up to six months, due to safety concerns. More than 430,000 users will be affected.
