ARGENTINA: Vaca Muerta proving difficult to resurrect

On 13 May a federal appeals court in the province of Buenos Aires ordered the public ministry to launch an investigation into whether President Cristina Fernández broke the law by signing a decree formalising a deal between Argentina’s national oil firm, Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF), and the US oil major Chevron, to jointly exploit the Vaca Muerta shale hydrocarbon deposit, est. to hold some 23bn barrels of oil equivalent.
