POLITICS: Revisiting of ‘Parapolitics’ prompts ‘Farcpolitics’ allegations

When Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos opened the newly elected national congress in July, he said the “congress of peace” would support the ongoing peace talks with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc), the country’s main guerrilla group. Three months on, a clash of political heavyweights in the senate has sparked a pitched political battle that threatens to severely hinder congressional relations and does the peace process no favours.
