Colombia’s main political opposition, the right-wing Centro Democrático (CD), is reeling from illegal spying allegations related to the peace talks with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) in Cuba. Meanwhile, the party’s founder, former president Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010), could soon be personally embroiled in a separate illegal spying scandal. María del Pilar Hurtado, the former head of Colombia’s discredited former national intelligence agency (DAS, 2007-2009), turned herself in to the Colombian embassy in Panama at the weekend and was promptly flown back to Colombia.
