Looking for ways to approve revised Farc peace deal
The Colombian government led by President Juan Manuel Santos and the insurgent guerrillas from the Fuerzas Armada Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) have succeeded in agreeing a revised bilateral peace deal to replace that rejected in a 2 October national referendum, in record time. Just five weeks after the referendum, the two sides have reached a new finalised peace deal and presented it to the public. While the government led by President Juan Manuel Santos insists that the new deal incorporates most of the proposals made by those who rejected the original one, it is still uncertain if the revised deal will be acceptable to them. Amid this uncertainty, the government is analysing the best way of politically legitimising the new deal.
