JAMAICA: A good month for the JLP

Ten months after leading Jamaica’s People’s National Party (PNP) to the narrowest of defeats in the February general election, former prime minister Portia Simpson Miller has told the party that she will not stand again for the leadership at the party’s next annual convention in September. The decisive factor in her decision appears to have been a poor showing by the PNP in last month’s local elections.
