Honduras: MACCIH delivers a cautious first report

On 1 December, the Mission to Support the Fight against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH) presented its first semi-annual report to the permanent council of the Organization of American States (OAS), which is sponsoring the mission. While the report highlighted the implementation by the Honduran authorities of several structural reforms against corruption and impunity, the MACCIH was also tacitly critical of the government led by President Juan Orlando Hernández, after parts of the reforms were watered down and some of MACCIH’s recommendations, including on the selection of senior court magistrates, were ignored for blatantly political reasons.
