Peru is on tenterhooks as the fallout of the Odebrecht scandal intensifies, with some fears of a repeat of the recent political upheaval in Brazil. Peruvian authorities have issued a preventive detention order against former president Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006), whose whereabouts are unknown. Toledo is wanted for questioning about the receipt of no less than US$11m of US$20m of bribes paid by the Brazilian construction giant in relation to a major highway project in the country.
