US takes heat off Uribe
President Alvaro Uribe clearly feels he deserves better. His determination to defeat Colombia’s armed militant groups is producing results; the Marxist rebels of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia and the Ejército de Liberación Nacional have scaled down their activities, while the paramilitaries of the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia are observing a ceasefire. And yet he is still forced to defend his policies by people who, in his eyes, simply do not understand his nation’s problems...
