Uribe as peace president?
President Alvaro Uribe has founded his reputation and his popularity upon being a war president. In July, however, he removed the last obstacle to a peace deal with the paramilitaries of the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC) and made overtures to both the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) and the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN).
