Slim chance of justice for paramilitaries
The final piece of the paramilitary peace process is in place. The constitutional court has formally approved the peace and justice law and the leaders of the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC) have accepted the legislation. Seeing the process through will be a massive task, requiring the 30,000 paramilitaries to admit to the totality of the crimes they committed throughout the country over a period spanning two decades which affected tens of thousands of Colombians and have impacted on the highest level of the political system and fundamentally altered the Colombian economy.
