MAS wins but does not take a majority
The results of the 2 July elections for the constituent assembly and the vote on whether Bolivia's nine departments should have more autonomy were another setback for the Right and a boost for the ruling, leftwing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS). Exit polls pointed to a majority for the ruling MAS in the constituent assembly that will rewrite the constitution; in the referendum a majority of departments (and voters) decided against increased autonomy for departments.
