Correa on course for victory
The most likely outcome of Ecuador's forthcoming general elections is the victory of a president who will refuse to recognise the legitimacy of congress. Rafael Correa, a 43-year old US-trained economist who is a great admirer of Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez, is running for the Alianza PAlS, a party which is not fielding any legislative candidates as it intends to replace congress with a constituent assembly. So confident is Correa that he has begun naming his cabinet already.
