São Paulo sets trend for October polls
The Lula administration has done the media, and particularly political commentators, a great favour. It has managed to turn the São Paulo mayoral race into an indicator of the results of the forthcoming municipal elections - a highly complex set of contests in which some 6,800 posts in 5,563 municipalities are at stake. The problem is that it is projecting itself as fearful of defeat in São Paulo, which conspires against the effort to hype up the party faithful elsewhere.
