Campaign-funding scandal gets stickier
The government's refusal to accept a congressional inquiry into the campaign-funding scandal [RBS-04-02] has clearly been damaging its credibility, even among its political allies. Additional revelations have made its position, which looks like a cover-up attempt, ever less tenable. The situation has even led its biggest partner, the Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (PMDB), to start suggesting that it may pull out of the alliance - though it is ostensibly invoking economic policy, not corruption, as its motive.
