What the future holds for Lula
Recent allegations point to the direct involvement of President Lula da Silva in the corruption scandals that have shaken Brazil. Lula's first official statement on the crisis, broadcast on 12 August, did not seem to convince many Brazilians of his innocence. At the very least, most believe that the president was aware of the bribery and illegal funding schemes mounted by the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT), blaming him for failing to stop corruption at the centre of his government.
