Torrijos firm favourite to secure Panamanian presidency
MartÃn Torrijos will be elected as the new president of Panama on 2 May if the final poll before the elections proves to be accurate. The poll, published by the Panamanian daily La Prensa suggests that Torrijos, who is running for the Patria Nueva alliance, comprising the centre-left Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD) and the centrist Partido Popular (PP), should record a decisive victory, garnering 47% of the vote.
