Zelaya wins in Honduras after delayed count
The candidate for the opposition Partido Liberal (PL), Manuel "Mel" Zelaya, won the presidential elections on 27 November. His victory over the ruling party candidate, Porfirio "Pepe" Lobo Sosa, was not confirmed by the supreme electoral tribunal (TSE) for 12 days. This caused widespread confusion, not least because the president of the TSE, ArÃstides MejÃa, prematurely proclaimed Zelaya "the clear winner" on 28 November after only 2.8% of the ballots had been counted.
