BRAZIL: Lula seeks to rally support in senate
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva hosted an event in his official residence on 5 March to which he invited leading members of the senate, seeking to gain their favour ahead of upcoming legislative challenges. Tensions have escalated between the executive and congress in recent months over legislation regarding taxes, so this event was viewed as a chance for Lula to mend relations with the senate president, Rodrigo Pacheco.
