ECUADOR: Four ministers face impeachment proceedings
Four ministers in President Daniel Noboa’s government are facing impeachment votes after Ecuador’s national assembly voted on 6 August to approve a report accusing them of dereliction of duty. The ministers of the interior, defence, environment, and tourism are accused by the left-wing opposition of supporting a controversial construction project in a protected area of rainforest in Santa Elena province. The development is being carried out by Vinazin SA, a company which is owned by First Lady Lavinia Valbonesi.
