Argentina’s far-right President Javier Milei, perhaps emulating US President-elect Donald Trump, has sharply stepped up his government’s anti-immigrant rhetoric. On 4 December the presidential spokesman, Manuel Adorni, stated “the truth is that thugs, squatters, and opportunists should stay on the other side of the border, and not come to Argentina to harm the citizens here”. He added that foreign born criminals would be deported.
