Carolina Tohá resigned her position as Chile’s interior minister on 4 March in order to launch a presidential bid. While the parties in the main right-of-centre opposition coalition Chile Vamos have settled on Evelyn Matthei, the current frontrunner, as their presidential candidate, and far-right candidates, José Antonio Kast and Johannes Kaiser, are intent on running, nobody had stepped forward to carry the standard for the left – until now.
