Weekly Report - 24 July 2025 (WR-25-29)

Chile’s President Gabriel Boric hosted a summit on democracy in Santiago on 21 July attended by left-leaning leaders in the region, including Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Colombia’s Gustavo Petro, and Uruguay’s Yamandú Orsi, as well as Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The attending heads of state emphasised the importance of progressive left-wing leaders presenting a united front in the face of the rise of organised far-right populist and authoritarian movements threatening democratic governance.
