Can Rivadeneira pull Ecuador’s opposition together?
Ecuador’s main opposition party, Revolución Ciudadana (RC), has appointed Gabriela Rivadeneira as its new leader at its 17-18 January annual convention in the northern port city of Manta. Elected unopposed, her job is to unite a fractious party which in three successive elections in 2021, 2023, and 2025 reached the second round of the presidential ballot but was defeated on each occasion.
