VENEZUELA: Imperfect amnesty bill marks step towards political reform
Venezuela’s President Delcy Rodríguez promulgated an amnesty law for political prisoners on 19 February after it received unanimous support in two debates in the national assembly. Whilst the opposition has said it welcomes all initiatives to free prisoners of conscience, it warns that there are gaping omissions in the amnesty legislation which will result in many political prisoners remaining behind bars.
