*Honduras’ President Nasry Asfura, who took office on 27 January, has announced that his conservative Partido Nacional (PN) government will have access to up to US$2m after Honduras’ 128-member unicameral legislature ratified a donation from the Latin American development bank (CAF). According to a CAF press release, US$1m will go on the purchase of school supplies across the country, while another US$1m will be assigned for infrastructure projects along with water and sanitation initiatives, among other things. The announcement follows a meeting on 20 March between CAF’s executive president, Sergio Díaz-Granados, and President Asfura. According to CAF, the two sides discussed the government’s finance plan for 2026-2030 which seeks to “drive strategic projects for sustainable development nationwide” and permit the country to access “increased cooperation and financial resources under favourable conditions to strengthen public finances, job creation, and productivity”.
