Weekly Report - 14 May 2026 (WR-26-19)

Following months of turbulence in US-Brazil diplomatic ties, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met President Donald Trump in the White House on 7 May. Although no concrete agreement emerged from the meeting, the fact that they had decided to meet in person sends a positive signal for bilateral relations, although lingering points of tensions between the left-wing Lula government and the right-wing Trump administration are expected to remain, as officials from both countries will continue negotiations on issues such as tariffs, security, and mining.
