Mexico by Ira Lee 20 May 2026 1275 views

*US car manufacturer General Motors (GM) has announced that it will start assembling its Chevrolet Groove and Aveo models in Mexico for sale on the local market, aiming for 80,000 ‌vehicles a year by 2030. The vehicles will be assembled at GM’s complex in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila state, using parts manufactured in Asia. The announcement is part of a pledge made by GM in January to invest US$1bn in Mexico this year and next. Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the announcement took place in the framework of Plan México, which aims to boost domestic industry. Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard said the plans would protect jobs, bring in more investment, and lead to more parts being made in Mexico. Local assembly of the Chevrolet Groove compact SUV and Chevrolet Aveo car will begin in 2027 across the company’s five factories in Ramos Arizpe.
