What’s at stake for Paraguay’s elections?
Paraguay is about to embark upon a turbulent electoral period. Internal elections take place on 7 June to select mayoral candidates to participate in municipal elections on 4 October. The ruling Asociación Nacional Republicana-Partido Colorado (ANR-PC) is riven by internal divisions, which the political opposition is hoping to take advantage of to claim some notable triumphs, with the mayoralty of Asunción the principal target.
