As anticipated, President Javier Milei presented a draft bill to reform Argentina’s central bank (BCRA) on 30 July. During the 2023 election campaign, Milei had promised to close down the bank entirely but, to the relief of the financial markets, did not deliver on that commitment. The latest proposal is closer to mainstream opinion, even though it seeks a radical reduction in deficit-funding.
