*El Salvador’s authoritarian President Nayib Bukele has announced that his government plans to invest over US$3bn in education, which he says is “more than triple that invested by previous governments”, and equivalent to 8% of El Salvador’s GDP. Bukele, who in December announced a partnership with artificial intelligence (AI) firm xAI to use AI tools in public schools throughout the country, made his comments at an event held at football stadium Estadio Nacional Jorge ‘El Mágico’ González in San Salvador, attended by thousands of students.
