Costa Rica’s conservative President Laura Fernández has met her Colombian peer Abelardo de la Espriella in what is her first trip abroad since assuming power in May. The meeting between the two leaders, who are ideologically aligned and keen allies of the US administration led by President Donald Trump, focused on security – a key priority for them both. It comes amid other signs that the Fernández government is seeking to shore up ties with Washington, and other allies in the region.
