In brief: Industrial production up in Mexico
*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported that the industrial activity index (Imai) rose by 0.6% in monthly terms in August, and by 3.6% year-on-year. This follows a monthly rise of 0.5% in July, while the annual figure was up from 2.5% the previous month, according to the latest figures. The monthly rise was driven by growth in manufacturing and utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas), both up 1.2%. This was somewhat offset by a 1.6% drop in mining, while construction showed no variation from the previous month. However, in yearly terms construction was up 7.9%, followed by manufacturing (3.2%), and utilities (1.4%), while mining was down 0.8% year-on-year.
